UFC President Dana White on Thursday announced that ZUFFA will merge the WEC with the UFC in 2011.

“It’s time,” White said during a conference call. “As we continue to grow globally, we’re doing enough fights to fold [the WEC] into the UFC.”

All WEC talent will be retained, White said. WEC featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo will be the new UFC featherweight champion, and the same will go for the winner of Dominick Cruz’s title defense against Scott Jorgensen at the promotion’s final event, WEC 53, in December.

But what about the WEC lightweights? The UFC already has its own 155-pound title and a lot of good fighters in that division. White said he intends to fold all the WEC lightweights into the UFC, unifying the two belts with a miniature tournament.

Additionally, White announced that the UFC just penned a new contract with Versus to air four events on the network in 2011. While technically that doubles the number of UFC shows from 2010, the loss of several WEC events on Versus actually decreases the total number of Zuffa-owned shows airing on the network.

“It’s a positive. We get [more] UFC on Versus,” White said. “If you ask Versus, they were happy with the WEC’s ratings, but the UFC is going to pull bigger ratings.”

Job security is not exclusive to the WEC’s fighters, White said, as other WEC employees will keep their jobs.

Dana White, UFC president, throughout his history, he has always been a fan of putting on the best fights, trying to stay away from putting on a fight simply for the spectacle of it and the competitive fights.

He admits that he is hoping to expose former boxing champion James Toney, who has been just itching for a chance to get in the Octagon. Toney debuted just under two months away and prove he is better than the best mixed martial artists.

Brock Lesnar, as UFC heavyweight champion joked with White at the UFC 116 post-fight press conference. White flipped the script, when Lesnar was brought into the promotion simply to be made an example.

He said with a laugh, “No, we’re going to make an example of James Toney.”

Facing Randy Couture for his first MMA fight, White knows that Toney is stepping into deep waters. Couture is a legend and UFC Hall of Famer, he is a multi-time champion of the UFC, but the UFC president knows that it’s a fight, and in a fight, anything can happen.

White stated that, “James Toney’s been an accomplished fighter for many years, and he’s training in mixed martial arts now. James Toney’s a real fighter. Listen, James and I go back and forth, he’s mad at me right now, and he’s going to be even more pissed off after what I just said. The reality is, I am not so delusional that I don’t think anything can happen when two big guys get in there and start throwing punches. I’m sure many of you that have been in the fight business for a long time, have seen some crazy things happen.”

At UFC 116, Toney attended, and met with reporters Saturday morning. White says that Toney is training right, has his weight down, and will be prepared for Aug. 28 and he is working full time to become a mixed martial artist.

“He’s going to try to knock out Randy Couture that night, it’s become this whole UFC vs. boxing thing. I said it before, and I’ll say it again, always yapping about people who do ‘freak shows,’ I’m doing one”, said White.

At UFC 118 in Boston, James Toney will face Randy Couture. On MMAWeekly Radio this Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, the on MMAWeekly Radio this Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

In the UFC, Mirko Cro Cop will finish his career, Dana White has confirmed.

Following Cro Cop’s, his contract has officially ended, which earned the Croatian Submission of the Night honors. Cro Cop suddenly showed he still has the heart and talent to defy his 35 years, having twice been knocked down in round one, battling back to put Barry on the mat before snapping on the rear naked choke.

The demand to see Cro Cop will be high, after such an outstanding performance, but he claimed that his career was over.

He said, “Most of the training proved to me that I am now too old for this, I don’t know about a new contract with the UFC. I believe that I gave this game a lot; I fought with the greatest fighters. For 20 years, I lived this life and now I have no motivation for the fight, no mental strength for all the Spartan training. I am no longer so hungry for victory. I will not stop training, but if I am asleep I’ll stay in bed and practice an hour later.”

The former PRIDE Grand Prix champion will be tried to be convinced to fight again, admits White. However, he insists Cro Cop will not be seen entering any other organization’s ring, if the president fails.

“We’re going to talk to Mirko, and see what Mirko wants to do, Mirko has said to me and Lorenzo [Fertitta] both that he wants to finish his career here, and yeah we plan on him finishing his career here with the UFC ” , explained White.

Between Cro Cop and White, the relationship has never been better, proven by the light-heavyweight’s cheeky plea to a ‘stingy’ White for a Submission of the Night bonus. When his career ends, the fighter himself admits he plans to become an ambassador for the UFC.

“Definitely I will stick around with the UFC. Definitely, Fighting or not, I would like to stay in contract with them. We will see. I will sit with Dana and we will talk “, stated Cro Cop.

Dana White has admitted that despite looking odds-on to square off ahead of UFC 112, Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva are still ‘a few fights’ away from facing each other.

Talking about a Silva vs. GSP super fight, UFC commentators began the Abu Dhabi event as the next challenge on Silva’s agenda, if he defended his title against Demian Maia. White has decided to throw the middleweight champion towards the snarling Chael Sonnen, since the manner of that defense was so appalling to him.

After The Spider’s good friend Lyoto Machinda was dispossessed of his crown, the plan for Silva post-Sonnen is said to be a run at the light-heavyweight belt. St-Pierre may be too small for Silva, believes White, although he admits that he will have no choice but to put it together, if demand for the fight continues.

The UFC president said, “These guys still have a few fights to go before that could happen, we’re in the business of making fights that people want to see. For instance, right now, I am getting terrorized – and I am shocked that people keep doing it – to put on Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre. It starts to get to the point where I am like, ‘I guess if everybody wants to see this fight, maybe we make this fight “.

Dana White made a lofty claim, last week, stating that certain MMA websites are receiving money from his promotion’s competitors to include fighters on their weight-class and their pound-for-pound restricted rankings lists.

Between certain sites and particular fight organizations, White believed that there are money-changing hands, pointing to the inclusion of WAMMA champion Fedor Emelianenko on the majority of heavyweight and pound-for-pound lists.

“He’s not even the best heavyweight in the world. To put him on the pound-for-pound list. I think some of these guys don’t even know what pound-for-pound means, It’s just so disrespectful to all the other fighters it’s crazy “, said White.

The UFC president says that the majority of MMA news and blog sites are in the sport for the money. He owns a meager 10% share in the multi-billion dollar promotion. As per him, he knew a number of MMA reporters who make a living in the sport on two hands. The reality is that before they get their first payday, most writers work free for years

“Most of these goofy MMA sites, what you have to understand is, these guys are in it for the money. They are paid from all the smaller promotions. They are paid a lot of money from the smaller promotions. So they feel like they have to put some of their people that are the way it works. It’s sick and drives me crazy. It’s not a real pound-for-pound list. Either they don’t know pound-for-pound is or the obvious is they’re being paid “, said White.

He didn’t name the sites involved in this ugly practices although his comments did direct to Simmons’ inquiry about Sherdog’s current P-4-P list.
