Time Keeping Error highlights UFC 123
Like most fight cards UFC 123 ended with its fair share of controversy. While the show was highlighted by a razors edge decision in the Jackson vs. Machida bout, which Jackson won 2 rounds to 1, as well as a startling 21 second win for BJ Penn, much have the attention has shifted to one of the under card bouts.
The UFC is conducting and inquiry of the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission concerning a discrepancy in the clock keeping of a middleweight contest between Miaquel Falcao, and Gerald Harris and these factors affected UFC betting odds.
As the first round of the match neared the bell Falcao secured a rear naked choke on Harris. With Harris struggling to hold on until the end of the round it appeared that Falcao was about to put him to sleep. Then the bell rang; then only problem is that it rang seven seconds early.
Those seven seconds likely saved Harris, and the fight would continue on for another two rounds. Falcao would end up winning the bout in a lackluster decision, however many people feel that the fight was over in the first round.
The Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission has declined UFC inquires up to this point, as they attempt to piece together the events and figure out what exactly happened in the closing seconds of the match.
