Fitch and Alves all set for UFC 117 Rematch

UFC 117’s much-anticipated rematch of Jon Fitch v Thiago Alves looks set to go. This match brought lots of interest as it has been over half a year later than the match, originally was meant to happen.

Back in 2006, Fitch and Alves first met at the Ultimate Fight Night 5. Thanks to a second-round TKO, Fitch emerged as the triumphant. However, in the four years since that bout, both fighters have improved vastly, and Alves in particular is desperate to avenge the defeat after he had been in a winning position. This makes the match all the more interesting and exciting.

Alves suffered a knee injury so the bout was moved to UFC 111, although the pair originally agreed to rematch at UFC 107. “The Pitbull” was pulled due to a problem with his CAT scan, this time, on the eve of the clash, which later required surgery.

For UFC 115, Alves had hoped to return, but after Fitch appeared to confirm the fight on Twitter, finally it seems he will get to grips with the AKA man at UFC 117 in Oakland.

Fitch, who has won his last four fights, wrote, “SIGNED, see you in Oakland!”

If the match happens, Fitch v Alves would surely provide the co-main event on a card, even though the UFC are yet to officially confirm the bout. The co-main event on a card already features Roy Nelson v Junior Dos Santos, Matt Hughes v Ricardo Almeida and Anderson Silva v Chael Sonnen. So let’s hope this happens so watch for the MMA odds to be posted
