At the Palms – Hamill takes out Jardine
At the Palms, in a brutal fight against Keith Jardine, Light heavyweight Matt Hamill produced the goods to win via a points decision in their fight at the TUF 11 finale.
As a series of accurately aimed punches and kicks kept Jardine’s opponent on the back foot, he enjoyed the better of the first round. In the second, with a barrage of attack’s to Jardine’s head and body, Hamill responded too. After Hamill’s opponent had a point deducted for catching him in the eye with a thumb, he led heading onto the final round.
As the incident appeared to be an accidental one, the ruling seemed somewhat harsh. With a takedown in the third, Hamill took full advantage and that move proved decisive as he took the bout on a cards decision. While other judges marked the fight 28-28, two judges ruling the fight 29-27 in his favor.
“The game plan was to keep moving and set up the takedown, but I broke my left hand in the first round and I couldn’t attack on the takedowns, I had to go to Plan B, and I put all my heart into it”, said Hamill.
Since December, Hamill was fighting for the first time. In UFC history, he earned one of the most infamous wins. Over Jon Jones despite being manhandled by “Bones” for the entire first round, Hamill was awarded a disqualification victory
As Hamill relived the action-packed bout this Sunday, he smiled through every bit of the pain. To crack the top-10 in the world at 205 pounds is his current goal and to give him a top-10 opponent in his next outing, he implored UFC matchmaker Joe Silva.
“When the fight was over, I didn’t know about the decision, I just went all out the best I could. Whether my hand was raised or not, I knew I had fought my heart out “, said Hamill.
