MMA Fighter Profile – Tank Abbott

Tank Abbott was born in 1965 in Hunting beach, California. On the beaches of Southern California, this college wrestler was interested in bare-knuckle fighting. In the art of Pit-Fighting, The 270 pound Tank Abbott was undefeated. Pit-Fighting, a sport started by outlaw biker gangs, in which a pit is dug and two fighters jump in and brawl.

In 1995, with his huge aggression and one punch knockouts, Tank Abbott took the UFC by storm. Over many undefeated MMA fighters, over the next 8 years Tank Abbott had some impressive wins. Some of his wins against the undefeated fighters include 220 pound Hugh Duarte, 250 pound Steve Nelmark, 300lbs. Paul “Polar Bear” Varlans and 300 pound John Matua. Two Martial Arts World Champions were also defeated by Abbott. In 1995 he won against the undefeated UFC Champion Steve Jennum by TKO and in 1996, he defeated GC Champion Cal Worsham. To capture a world championship, The Tank failed in his three bids, after defeated by Maurice Smith, Oleg Taktarov and Don Frye.

In special wrestling “shoot-matches”, Tank Abbott scored a number of quick knockouts. He launched a highly publicized comeback in MMA arena in 2003 but it was short lived. He was defeated by Wesley “Cabbage” Correira and Frank Mir, Kimo Leopoldo. In a rematch, He later defeated Cabbage by K.O. he had a first round knockout loss to Kimbo Slice at Elite XC’s Street Certified event in February 2008. His next big fight was against Mike Bourke on February 13, 2009, at The Selland Arena in Fresno, California. For the first time in nearly four years, he secured a victory after he knocked Bourke in the first round.
