UFC 112: Jon Madsen vs. Mostapha Al-turk
Jon Madsen and Mostapha Al-turk will face each other this Saturday at UFC 112’s lone heavyweight bout. The fight will take place on the event’s undercard and features a young up-and-coming fighter looking to extend his unbeaten streak (Madsen) and a veteran looking for his first UFC victory (Al-turk).
Mostapha Al-turk is a British fighter and former Heavyweight champion in the now defunct Cage Rage. After giving up his title, he signed a four-year deal with the UFC. He is still looking for his first UFC victory having lost his first two matches (against Cheick Kongo at UFC 92 and Mirko Filipovi? at UFC 99).
Al-turk has been in the spotlight as an exhibit for instant replay. In his loss to Filipovi?, replays showed he was temporarily blinded by an eye poke. Filipovi? was then able to finish the fight with strikes.
Madsen skipped competing as an amateur and went straight to pro, going 2-0 in his first two matches. He was then selected as a cast member for the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter. His official debut came during the season’s finale, in which he was able to defeat Justin Wren in a split decision. The win improved his overall record to 3-0.
Madsen had a decorated high school and college wrestling career and fights for the H.I.T. Squad (run by Matt Hughes). He will try to make this fight a wrestling match and will need to avoid Al-turk’s submission moves if he wishes to do so.
Al-turk has experience with top-notch wrestlers. He upset former collegiate champion wrestler Mark Kerr in 2007. He is also more experienced and well-rounded than Madsen, so he will likely end up winning if he can keep it from becoming a wrestling match.
