UFC 112: DaMarques Johnson vs. Brad Blackburn

DeMarques Johnson and Brad Blackburn have agreed to fight each other in a welterweight bout at UFC 112 this Saturday.  The fight will take place on the event’s Under Card.

Johnson was the runner up for the welterweights on The Ultimate Fighter: United States vs. United Kingdom.  His first two MMA fights ended with him on the losing side.  He would go on to win 12 of his next 15 fights, earning his UFC debut on the finale for The Ultimate Fighter. The fight ended with Johnson being on the wrong end of a submission defeat at the hands of James Wilks. This past December, Johnson earned his first UFC victory over Edgar Garcia via triangle choke at UFC 107.  The submission was good enough for “Submission of the Night.”

This will be Blackburn’s fifth official UFC fight.  He was undefeated in UFC fights up until January.  He lost in a unanimous decision to Amir Sadollah.  The loss snapped a five-fight winning streak for Blackburn – a run that included UFC wins over Garcia, Ryo Chonan and James Giboo.

The sting of January’s defeat is still fresh on Blackburn’s mind.  He has acknowledged that Johnson is a tough fighter and that he will hand Blackburn his second straight defeat if he doesn’t bring his ‘A’ game.

Both fighters are well-rounded and versatile and are hungry for success.  Johnson is looking to build on his exciting victory at UFC 107 and Blackburn is looking to avoid losing two consecutive matches.  Blackburn appears to have the upper-hand in this fight, as Johnson is a little untested.
